Role Description

The Assistant Producer will manage the creation of digital content and online courses for Pearson’s many products and platforms. For assigned products, work with product teams to define content and course design strategies (within common program standards) that address customer feedback and market needs. Manage schedules and budgets with vendors for all assigned products to ensure that project goals, milestones, and deliverables are met on time and within budget. Work closely with supervisor and other team members to make sure all content incorporates learning design best practices and meets Pearson’s accessibility standards.

The Assistant Producer’s responsibilities include the following:

  • Manage development and production of all media components for assigned courses, including eTexts, videos, animations/simulations, PowerPoint lectures, and any other media assets that support Pearson International’s list.

  • Within overall program framework and standards, develop a media plan for each assigned title, soliciting input from manager and the product team to ensure that the rich media components of the product meet our market needs.

  • Collaborate with manager and the product team to refine the structure and learning path within each online course to highlight critical content and provide a streamlined user experience.

  • Work closely with manager and other team members to ensure that all content meets Pearson’s and accessibility standards (to align with WCAG 2.0).

  • Manage the assembly of the final course build, working within Pearson systems to assemble content, review the course with the product team, and release and deliver the final course.

  • Manage quality assurance for all content in collaboration with Pearson’s dedicated QA team.

  • Actively manage schedules and budgets for all assigned products, monitoring and reporting regularly on schedule, cost estimates, and actual expenditures.

  • Obtain bids from vendors as required; negotiate vendor contracts and manage vendor relationships, actively monitoring for quality compliance and adherence to schedule, budget, and technical specifications.

Qualifications

  • Related work experience

  • Minimum of 2-4 years managing digital content for educational courseware

  • Experience managing freelancers, vendors, and/or authors

  • Experience managing digital workflows

  • Proven track record of working independently within cross-functional teams

Formal Education or Equivalent

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent required

Critical Competencies and Skills

  • Ability to work independently and thrive in an environment of continual change

  • Highly effective communication skills, including the ability to facilitate communication, build consensus among team members, and make decisions confidently

  • Excellent project management skills, including the ability to multi-task and effectively balance short-term and long-term priorities, making appropriate calls on prioritization

  • Exceptional attention to detail and strong organization skills: self-organizing and self-motivating

  • Ability to respond confidently to conflicts and manage situations in a positive way, proactively escalating on-going issues to manager

  • Ability to take active ownership of projects, proactively assessing and mitigating risk and posing effective solutions to problems

  • Basic knowledge of HTML/JavaScript/CSS is preferred

  • Knowledge of Smartsheets or equivalent project management tools is a plus

  • Knowledge of video compression software & general video production techniques is a plus
