Pearson Director, Technology Product Management in Durham, North Carolina

Position Summary:

The Director of Technology Product Management is a key role, reporting to the Vice President of Product for Platform and Security. This position requires a diverse range of skills that include security, data privacy, data architecture, cloud computing, and the integration of generative AI technologies. The Director is responsible for leading a small team of product and technology professionals and will work closely with internal and external stakeholders as well as customers and other Product Verticals. The Director will play a central role in shaping and executing a strategic vision that prioritizes our users' security and safety while ensuring the implementation of new cutting-edge AI technologies and Cloud computing across our core technology product areas to keep us innovative, efficient, and competitive in the market.

Responsibilities:

Technology Product Strategy and Vision

  • Lead the development of a holistic product strategy that incorporates security, data privacy, data retention, cloud transformation, the reduction of technology debt, and the strategic application of generative AI.

  • Act as an influencer and expert in integrating AI technologies, ensuring that AI initiatives complement and enhance other product verticals such as Curriculum & Content development and School Experience.

  • Set the vision and pace of Pearson Online Classrooms' transition from legacy technology to AWS Cloud native services.

  • Conduct market research and analysis to identify customer needs, market trends, and competitive landscape across your product portfolio.

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to define product requirements, features, and roadmap.

Comprehensive Product Development

  • Oversee the end-to-end product development lifecycle, from concept to launch, supporting the roadmap.

  • Ensuring that generative AI components harmoniously blend with traditional technology components and other Product Vertical initiatives.

  • Strategically guides the creation of product requirements, ensuring they align with business objectives and market trends while also collaborating with stakeholders to continually shape a cohesive product roadmap.

  • Monitor product performance and identify opportunities for enhancements or new features based on customer feedback and data analysis. Recommend operational changes to optimize performance.

  • Prioritize and manage the product backlogs.

  • Manage and mentor a team of product managers and product owners, supporting their career growth and fostering inclusivity and empowerment.

Cross-Functional Leadership and AI Advocacy:

  • Facilitate cross-functional collaboration, ensuring that generative AI applications are well-integrated and support the broader technology product goals and product verticals.

  • Drive AI literacy and adoption amongst team members, balancing this with a deep understanding of traditional technology disciplines.

  • Collaborate with marketing teams to develop go-to-market strategies, positioning, and messaging for AI & technology-related initiatives.

Technology Product Marketing Communication:

  • Develop and communicate a unified vision of how generative AI and other technology areas work in synergy to drive product innovation and customer satisfaction.

  • Oversee the creation of product documentation, including user guides, release notes, and marketing collateral.

  • Support marketing activities, such as product launches, campaigns, and events.

Industry Engagement and Trend Analysis:

  • Stay informed about developments in generative AI and other core technology areas like cloud computing and data security.

  • Conduct competitive analysis, ensuring our products maintain a balanced and competitive edge in AI and traditional technology.

Requirements:

  • At least 7 years in technology product management, with experience with AI, AWS & Azure Cloud, security, and traditional technology products.

  • A bachelor’s degree is required; a master’s in business administration, Computer Science, or a related field is preferred.

  • Proven expertise in managing a diverse technology portfolio, including an understanding of generative AI applications and how they integrate with other technology areas.

  • Demonstrated experience in leading cross-functional teams and driving innovation in product development.

  • Strong communication skills, capable of advocating for AI while maintaining a balanced perspective on overall technology strategy.

  • Curiosity and an eagerness to research and learn about cutting-edge technologies, develop expertise in those technologies where relevant, and apply them to the Product roadmap.

  • Drive best-practice business processes and solutions.

  • Proven ability to lead a team, create a supportive work climate, and deliver results.

  • Previous experience working leading cross-functional teams is a plus.

  • Self-driven individual with strong initiative who will take ownership throughout an initiative’s lifecycle.

  • Strategic thinker who can integrate and translate user experience into product solutions and market positioning.

  • Strong track record of developing partnerships, both internal and external to the organization

  • Ability to clearly articulate verbally and in writing the rationale for investments in the AI and Technology product offerings from both a customer experience and financial return and a business case and valuation creation perspective.

  • Passionate about a seamless customer experience journey and the role of Pearson in improving lifelong learning.

Compensation at Pearson is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and specific location. As required by the Colorado, California, Washington State, New York State and New York City laws, the pay range for this position is as follows:

The minimum full-time salary range is between $145,000 - $170,000..
