Unveil the boundless possibilities that await you.Subject Advisor Mathematics

Role location: This is a hybrid role and will allow for home working alongside office-based days. You will need to be in commutable distance of either our Manchester or central London office. Please submit cover letter and CV when applying for position.

About the role:

As Subject Advisor for Maths and Statistics, you will play a key role in supporting teachers with our suite of Pearson qualifications. As the public face of Pearson, you will often be the first point of contact to respond to queries from teachers delivering our UK and International Maths qualifications. You will also represent and feedback on teachers’ views internally, being proactive to ensure that we anticipate their needs throughout the academic year. You will have an interest in proactively engaging with teachers and key stakeholders, understanding their needs and how best to meet them.

You will be part of a friendly, experienced, and supportive team of Subject Advisors (within the Qualifications and Assessment division of Pearson), who are the focus of expertise for each subject specialism. In addition, you will work closely with the extended maths qualifications team, including colleagues from the product, assessment, sales and marketing teams. You will be a key contact for internal colleagues, representing the teacher perspective and subject knowledge required to ensure that our guidance, products, services and support meet customer needs.

Key Responsibilities:

A key part of the Subject Advisor role is to respond to incoming customer questions across a range of channels - primarily using our dedicated email system, but also via our community pages, online meetings, social media or on the phone, as required. You will also be proactive in keeping teachers informed, by writing email updates, social media posts, subject-specific guidance documents and community posts, as well as authoring subject news articles and video support to ensure that the maths landing page on our website is kept up to date.

You will deliver live, online support sessions for teachers and maths organisations at various points throughout the year and support with other maths training events and conferences as needed. You’ll build relationships and network with teachers, centres and key stakeholders in the maths world, understanding developments in maths education and assessment, and representing Pearson within this context.

During a normal working week, you might carry out some of the following activities:

  • Monitor social media for any direct messages about our maths qualifications needing a reply and post about any relevant qualification updates, forthcoming training or new resources.

  • Respond to any incoming queries about maths qualifications using our email systems. These are generally from maths teachers and Heads of Department, but might also include some questions from exams officers, tutors, parents or private candidates

  • Post an update and reply to posts on our maths community pages.

  • Write a subject news update and publish this on our website

  • Create a presentation for a support session to a Multi-Academy Trust or teaching association, according to their needs and requirements.

  • Write a monthly email update for teachers, including qualification news, training events and resources.

  • Attend a Network event online, responding to teacher questions in the chat during the event to support the presenter.

  • Capture teacher queries or feedback on themes as they emerge and review existing guidance documents.

  • Create documentation or video support and share teacher feedback internally for further action as needed.

  • Think about how we can proactively support maths teachers and Edexcel schools, for example, by creating new resources to address frequently asked questions.

  • Meet with the wider maths team to share key teacher queries and concerns and to stay updated on internal developments that may need timely communication to our customers.

  • Meet with the Subject Advisor team to share best practice and to ensure consistently excellent customer service across all subject specialisms.

  • Attend and feed into qualification redevelopment meetings, for example for new specifications and assessments.

  • Liaise with the dedicated customer service specialist from the customer service team who supports teachers on the phone with maths queries (and with other internal colleagues as needed) to get their perspective on customer needs and to ensure they are fully up to speed with maths developments.

  • Stay informed of maths developments by reading relevant Department for Education and Ofqual updates, subject association news, social media posts, maths influencer blogs etc.

We are looking for people who display a range of these strengths and behaviours:

  • Educated to degree level with relevant maths qualifications.

  • A qualified teacher with recent maths teaching experience in a UK or international school and familiarity with maths qualifications and UK/international education systems. Your primary experience may be of UK qualifications/teaching. You must have an interest in learning about our international qualifications and how these compare with UK qualifications.

  • A confident communicator, who can deliver online and face-to-face training and can create clear guidance documents and support resources for teachers.

  • A networker, who enjoys using social media to stay in touch with and share information with maths teachers.

  • A strategic thinker, who can contribute ideas to ensure outstanding customer service, to help retain market share and to promote our products and services.

  • Able to work independently but also enjoys being part of a team of knowledgeable maths and subject experts.

  • Focused and organised - able to juggle multiple queries and workstreams in a timely manner.

Role location: This is a hybrid role and will allow for home working alongside office-based days. You will need to be in commutable distance of either our Manchester or central London office.
